Born from a ride
It started on a climb in the Alps. Our founder, mid-ride, cursing at his single-speed bike that was perfect on the flats but useless on the ascent. He'd tried full-suspension drivetrains — too complex, too heavy, too many things to go wrong. There had to be a better way.
Two years of prototyping, machining, and real-world testing later, Contavelo was born. A simple, sealed 2-speed mechanism that lives entirely in the crank — no derailleur, no extra cables, no compromises. Just two gears, perfectly placed where you need them most.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign with 100+ backers across 12 countries, we're now scaling globally — bringing the 2-speed revolution to riders everywhere.
